Nigeria to host ECOWAS in December

President Muhammadu Buhari is billed to address the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, the Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria,Michel Arrion, has said.
Arrion, who disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday at a news conference, said the President’s visit to the Parliament was at the invitation of the EU.
He explained that Buhari would deliver his speech to the over 750-member parliament from the 28 EU member countries. According to him, Buhari will afterwards, have personal sessions with the President of the European Commission.
He said the visit would centre on the President’s agenda of security, anti-corruption and economy development, among others. On security, he said the EU commended Buhari’s visit to Nigeria’s neighbours on regional collaboration against Boko Haram insurgency. He said the meeting would also discuss how the EU could cooperate with Nigeria to fight corruption and return stolen funds to Nigeria.
Arrion said the Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility signed between Nigeria and the EU on March 12, 2015, would be fine-tuned during Buhari’s visit.
He said the EU would further put the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), with Nigeria on the front burner during Buhari’s visit.
The EU envoy declared that the signing of EPA would not be an invasion of the European products into the Nigerian markets.
He said EU had signed the EPA agreement with ECOWAS while most African countries had ratified it but wondered why Nigeria had not. (NAN)

Rivers Orders Amaechi, Ukpo, Others To Refund N100bn Allegedly Looted

Rivers Orders Amaechi, Ukpo, Others To Refund N100bn Allegedly Looted

Rivers_State
Rivers state government has ordered former governor Rotimi Amaechi, Brigadier Anthony Ukpo rtd. and some appointees of the former governor to refund about N100 billion allegedly missing from the state’s coffers.

This development is contained in a white paper released yesterday by the state government on the recommendations of the commission of inquiry set up by the government to probe the alleged sale of valued assets of the state and related matters by the administration of former governor Amaechi.
Commissioner for Housing, Mr Emma Okah who read out portions of the white paper to newsmen yesterday in Government House, Port Harcourt said the alleged sale and lease of valuable assets of the state by the former government did not follow due process.
“You will agree with me that the Omereji commission had several terms of references and we will be taking them one after the other. The first term of reference is to ascertain the sale of the Omoku 150 megawatts gas turbine; Afam 360 megawatts gas turbine; Trans-Amadi 136 megawatts gas turbine and the Eleme 75 megawatts gas turbine by the administration of former Governor Chibhike Rotimi Amaechi.
“The commission finds as a fact that the sale of 70% equity from the First Independent Power Limited in Omoku gas turbine, Trans-Amadi gas turbine, Afam Phase I gas turbine and Eleme gas turbine, have been very difficult to justify. They have therefore recommended the review of sale of the power assets and the government of Rivers State has accepted that recommendation.
“Refund of proceeds by Chibuike Amaechi, Chamberlain Peterside, and Augustine Nwokocha. In furtherance of this findings that the sale of the four gas turbines was unjustifiable and against the interest of the government and people of Rivers State.
“The commission recommends that the former governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, along with his former commissioners for Finance and Power, Dr. Chamberlain Peterside and Augustine Nwokocha, respectively, should be held to account for their roles in the sales of the power generation assets of First Independent Power Limited and the disbursement of the proceeds there from,” Okah said.

Georgia man charged with raping fiancee's 12-year-old daughter while babysitting her

How can you leave a man like this with your 12 year old? Shalin Ren Payne was arrested by Coweta County Sheriff's deputies for the rape of a 12-year-old. According to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, the 29-year-old Sharpsburg man was babysitting his fiancĂ©e’s 12-year-old daughter on Monday evening while she was at work when the attack took place.

Payne reportedly chased the victim through the home and broke down the bathroom door where she had attempted to barricade herself. Payne then threw her to the floor, holding her down and choking her, while her 4-year-old brother sat outside of the bathroom, unable to stop the attack which lasted less than an hour.
When the mother of the victim arrived home from work, she found Payne on top of her daughter and attempted to stop the assault by slamming a glass dish on top of his head. She was then physically assaulted by Payne before he fled the home in the nude.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at 8:30 p.m. and were able to apprehend Payne after he attempted to elude deputies on foot, according to the police. Authorities transported the victim to a hospital in Atlanta for further examination.
